Introduction

"You cannot know that you are limited, unless there is a simultaneous conviction that there is something which is unlimited. A poor person cannot know that he or she is poor, unless there is a simultaneous consciousness that there is something called wealth or richness" -Krishnananda

Profectus Affiliates serves to promote sustainable and naturally produced items that encourage a healthy lifestyle in physical and mental well being. Profectus strives to educate its audience with attainable, wholesome products that strengthen neural connections, promote beneficial mood and memory facets, and elevate tangible aspects of one's life with subconscious reprogramming.

We devote our mission to strengthening the connection between mind and body to support all aspects of self-care. Body image and "feeling comfortable in our own skin" gives an important message about how our bodies mirror our health behaviors. Mirror neurons are an important class of neurons that modulate their activity when one completes a motor activity and when they observe the same or similar act from another individual. Therefore, functionally executing actions and observation are closely-related processes, which currently cannot be identified specifically through neuro imaging techniques.

Through neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections, rewiring new habits provides significant insight into transforming our neural connections into an improved physiological state. However, if one continuously reenforces negative lifestyle actions such as poor sleep, hygiene, nutrition, or substance abuse; subsequent cognitive decline and premature aging may be accentuated. This information can be an impetus for researchers to explore further evidence-based methods for facilitating successful cognitive aging, to which our company strives to take part in.

Maintaining a lasting foundation of reliable and extensive research-backed items that build and enhance neural synapses is essential to fulfilling Profectus's goal. We hope to capture the eye of people who are willing to push past their default behaviors, limiting beliefs, achieve a higher sense of self-worth, and an improved subconscious mind.

Our subconscious mind contains all of the stored information of all things we have ever experienced. We must use both our consciousness, what is happening now, to positively influence our subconscious thoughts, since we manifest reality from these thoughts. The autonomic nervous system in our bodies helps maintain balance in all the chemicals that require constant regulation throughout our lives. We feel emotionally and sometimes physically uncomfortable or anxious when attempting to do anything new or different from our daily standardized operating procedures, which is actually our subconscious being activated. Have experienced a similar discomfort before? Did we fight, flight, or freeze? What if we changed this pattern? How would incrementally improving and overcoming negative cues, shifting the habit, and then creating a new response change our lives?

Mary grew up in East Aurora, New York about 30 minutes from Buffalo, NY. She completed a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Mary Washington. During her time at the University of Mary Washington, she competed on the women's varsity swim team where both superior physicality and prolonged mental endurance were needed for continual success. She learned here that developing a strong mental wellbeing, promoting positivity, and stepping through fear to take aligned action was essential for achieving her goals.

Most recently, she worked as a Research Assistant in a science-driven clinical-stage biotechnology company, which worked to develop therapies for hematologic cancers. Solving these unmet needs for those suffering with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), and other hematologic malignancies lay the foundation for her desire to help those who are struggling physically and mentally by providing a neurological connection between these deficiencies.

Though there are many diseases (like AML, CLL, MDS, NHL, etc...) that are uncontrollable, invasive, and sometimes incurable, she believes there are many aspects of our lives that we do have infinite control over. This control resides in "The Source," our brain, and having the ability to manage emotions, master physicality, and trust your gut prevail as resilient methods to overcome obstacles, rewire neural pathways, and promote subconscious up leveling.

Understanding Your Body

Interoception

Similar to our five senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch, interoception is a sense that helps us feel and understand what is happening inside our body. Interoception helps us effectively "read" our body and process signals such as hunger, thirst, body temperature, heart rate, and digestion. Most people are able to "read" these signals effectively, however there are examples of these signals at work, which go completely unnoticed. Everyday examples include knowing when to take a break at work when you feel your energy diminish or knowing when to leave the room during an escalating disagreement with your partner.

"Physical symptoms are the earliest and most effective indicators of our physiological state, before intellectual logic has a chance to intervene."

Inability to respond to these internal cues from which our body is communicating to us is an example of zoning out. Our brain initiates a constant process of integrating these signals from our body into specific neural sub-regions- such as the brainstem, insula, thalamus, somatosensory and anterior cingulate cortex. These signals create detailed feedback mechanisms on the physiological state of the body with messages such as "I'm too cold" or "I feel well." Interoceptive signals are sent to the brain through many neural pathways in the heart, blood, lungs, skin, and any other physiological systems. Sometimes immune system interoception may be able to indicate that you are coming down with a cold, many days before you even display symptoms.

How To "Read" Your Body

"The more grounded and present you are in your body, the stronger your interoceptive sense is likely to be, but it is absolutely something you can build on" - Tara Swart

Many everyday details go unnoticed. For example, after commuting to work everyday, do you remember the logo of the small, family-owned restaurant you pass each day? Most likely not, unless of course, you have an associated memory and experience with that restaurant or logo. This is the same as interoception in the sense that everyday somatic details such as a twitchy eyelid, restless legs, or stomach butterflies may pass by unnoticed and untreated. Though there are medical associations for muscle spasms or migraines with low magnesium levels or dizziness and brain fog with calcium deficiency, not all symptoms have a precise explanation. Interestingly, physical symptoms are the earliest and most effective indicators of our physiological state, even before intellectual logic has a chance to intervene.

Commit to your Body Now

One good exercise to practice keeping in tune and "reading" our interoception is to write down each day for one week;

a. What you eat

b. What mood you are in (I use a scale of 1-5; 1 is the worst, 5 is the best)

c. How many times you go to the bathroom to open your bowels

These three simple steps, with commitment, will help pin point how your body functions optimally and what slows it down.

Bad Case of Vacation Sickness?

Have you suffered from "vacation" or "leisure" sickness? Have you found yourself laid up in bed with a bad cold, stomach bug, or migraine as soon as you reach your tropical vacation destination? This is a HUGE red flag that you may have been ignoring or misreading your body's interoception. Essentially, you may not be noticing important messages from your body to brain, and your suppressed immune system is compensating by lowering its defenses. Stress and anxiety may also initiate psychosomatic pain supported by no physical pathology.

Ways to Prevent "Leisure Sickness"

Leisure or vacation sickness is a signal that traveling and non-traveling days around a trip imbalanced. Stress experts offer the below remedies for extending your physiological state during your vacation

I. Exercise

Work out after work or a stressful day—it may facilitate the unwinding process. This is key in preparing your body for the bigger unwind: your vacation.

II. Meditate

Changing how you react to stress—doing things more consciously and mindfully, less reactively, more calmly and efficiently, and less judgmentally—can impact health. Keep in mind that you can meditate anywhere—even on a plane.

III. Sleep in

Booking a sleep-friendly hotel is the first step in fending off illness during a vacation. Lack of sleep is linked with higher levels of bodily inflammation and lower levels of immune function. Without proper rest, the ability of natural killer cells to kill those infected by a virus weakens, as does our immune cells’ ability to protect us from getting sick.

IV. Celebrate in moderation

Getaways should be fun but excess alcohol, caffeine, and an unhealthy diet can hinder immune health, making it more likely that you fall ill. Consider being sensible for the day and swapping poolside cocktails for a trip to the juice bar. Another good technique is rotating an alcoholic beverage with a water to ensure adequate hydration.

V. Build in buffer days

If you’re able, ease into and out of vacation by tacking a day onto the beginning and end of your trip before and after you travel. This may require using an extra vacation day or two, but this will help you significantly when you want to wind down and then wind back up more gradually.
